# Your first read in 2 minutes

Don't be overwhelmed by all the data. Let's take it in baby steps

The report is long. On a first pass you only need four things, and they're all in the top block.

Read them in this order and stop. The rest of the report is the evidence behind these four, and it'll still be there when you want it.

### 1. The verdict sentence

The paragraph at the top, in plain English. It tells you whether the asset can support a grid at all, and if there's a catch, what the catch is.

Three outcomes you'll actually see:

* **Tradeable** — the asset's movement and costs work together. Read on.
* **Marginal** — it works, but costs have taken a real bite out of your options. Worth understanding what you're paying for before you commit.
* **Not viable** (either wording) — there's no step size that satisfies both the economics and the way this asset moves. No setfile fixes this.

### 2. The practical step range

The big cyan number. A range, not a single value.

This is the answer the tool exists to give: the span of step sizes this asset can support. Anywhere inside it is defensible. Which point you pick is your decision and depends on your strategy.

Underneath it in small print you'll see **floor set by volatility** or **floor set by cost**. Glance at that now. It tells you whether your options are limited by how the asset moves, or by what you pay to trade it.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Directly under the big number is a line reading *as **Minimum Step Size***. **That** is the range in the unit the setting uses. On gold, silver and other commodities it differs from the big number by a factor of a hundred; on FX and indices the two are the same. Both are correct. They're different units. On a profile made before Asset Profiler v1.23 the value is marked *(estimated)*, or the line asks for a re-run. See [Ticks, pips and price](/products/asset-profiler/ticks-pips-and-price.md).
{% endhint %}

### 3. Cost at entry

A dollar figure per lot: spread plus commission, charged the moment you open, before the trade has done anything at all.

Compare it against the coloured bar just below, which shows how much of your cost budget those two items have already used. Red and amber are what you've spent; green is what's left for holding the position overnight.

### 4. Carry runway

How many days you can hold before overnight swap uses up the budget.

**Unlimited** means the account has no overnight cost on this symbol, and how long you hold changes nothing. A number in days means the clock is running. Compare it against how long the retrace usually takes, which is in the panel below.
