# Grid

Configuration related to the grid configuration

### Step increments

<details>

<summary>Minimum Step (Inc/Dec)</summary>

`Double`

Default: 15.0

The smallest step size permissible in Increasing/Decreasing Fixed grids. A Step with Increasing distance grid starts at this step.

Shown when Grid Strategy is Step with Increasing distance or Step with Decreasing distance.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Maximum Step (Inc/Dec)</summary>

`Double`

Default: 35.0

The largest step size permissible in Increasing/Decreasing Fixed grids. A Step with Decreasing distance grid starts at this step.

Shown when Grid Strategy is Step with Increasing distance or Step with Decreasing distance.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Step +/- per Position</summary>

`Double`

Default: 2.0

The size to increase/decrease between steps

Each new position changes the gap by this amount, until the gap reaches Maximum Step (Increasing) or Minimum Step (Decreasing). For example, with Minimum Step 10, Maximum Step 30 and Step +/- 5, a Step with Increasing distance grid places its positions 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 apart, then 30 apart from there on.

</details>

### Position behaviors

<details>

<summary>Static Positions Before Dynamic</summary>

`Integer`

Default: 0

If using Dynamic grids, you can fix a certain number of positions to be 'fixed' before Dynamic positioning. Often used in conjunction with the Fixed Volume strategy. Positions will all be evenly distributed in accordance with the Minimum Step Size, even when an ATR based Re-Entry Spacing Mode is selected.

The count includes the first (Anchor) position. 0 = off. Shown when Grid Strategy is Dynamic.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Fixed Positions Before Incremental</summary>

`Integer`

Default: 3

Positions opened within X Minimum Step Sizes of the Anchor are sized using the Starting Volume; beyond that, incremental volume is applied.

Only used when Volume Precision Application is set to Fixed vol to Start - switch to Inc.

### Risk Zone Setup

{% hint style="danger" %}
Risk Zones are an important concept in Hydra Vision as they determine how the EA behaves. There are 3 zones, Green, Yellow and Red.
{% endhint %}

We define the Green and Yellow zone sizes, and anything outside of these 2 zones would be deemed the Red Zone.

The Zones are set up in multiples of Minimum Step Size. So if we have a Minimum Step Size of 20 pips and set Green Zone to 10 steps, this means our Green Zone is 200 pips (10 x 20 pips).

The primary dependency for [Risk Zones](/concepts/concepts/zones.md#risk-zones) in SmartEntry.

<details>

<summary>Low Risk = Green zone upper bound</summary>

`Integer`

Default: 5

The lowest risk zone and is defined starting from the Anchor position extending X step sizes. It is generally deemed the safest area to trade and where most grids should safely be closed down. Extending beyond the Green Zone moves the grid into a medium risk zone.

An alternative strategy would be to be cautious in the Green Zone, restricting entries in the event we have a market extension beyond closure.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Medium Risk = Yellow zone upper bound. Above this - Red</summary>

`Integer`

Default: 10

The zone immediately succeeding Green. Generally within the Yellow zone we would expect most grids to be shut down, and the drawdown should still be tolerable. Objectives in the Yellow zone would be to look for grid shutdown at all costs and avoid any profit taking.

Extending beyond the Yellow zone moves us into the higher risk Red Zone, which is generally where we want to be as risk averse as possible.

The contrarian view is that markets retrace from the Red Zone and we should seek PCL opportunities. This can backfire, and we only need 1 out of 10 extreme extensions from this zone to place grids under extreme pressure.

</details>

### Fixed trade zone setup

When using a Zone based grid strategy, we need to configure our 5 Zones. Zone one starts with the original Anchor order, and will extend X steps.

All positions within a Zone get the same volume treatment.

Zones can also accommodate Dynamic positions, meaning some Zones will have more or fewer orders than others.

<details>

<summary>Zone 1-4 ends at (x step)</summary>

`Integer`

Defaults: Zone 1 ends at 5, Zone 2 ends at 10, Zone 3 ends at 15, Zone 4 ends at 20. Zone 5 is everything beyond Zone 4, so it has no setting of its own.

Shown when Volume Precision Application is set to Zone based Incremental pricing.

Specify the ending step count of each zone. If Zone 1 is set as 10, this means on a 20 pip minimum step grid, our Zone 1 will be 10 \* 20 pips = 200 pips, before extending into Zone 2.

We should try and cover 300-500 pips (or equivalent) in a reasonable Zone based strategy.
